Creations by Helena Barbieri,
the talented designer of high end evening wear from the 1940s to 1960s
A rare find, and its a beauty,
black crepe with a built in bra and bodice liner,
a sweetheart neckline trimmed in mink
This dress is truly OSCAR worthy, there is a slight gather
at the front which allows for a fuller hemline the back
has two zippers, one on the inside lining/bodice bra
and one on the outside shell of the dress.
the dress is flawless, however the hanging straps for the
storage are in need of replacement as they have broken and been tied
I am sure the fabric is weakening from the stress of 60 years of hanging.
This dress is numbered, and the previous owners name is on the back
of the order tag
According to vintagefashionguild, "Helena Barbieri was a master of evening dress and formal gown design. Her work was considered by many to equal that of another popular designer, Ceil Chapman. Great attention to detail was always shown in her designs, from her choice of fabrics, to attention to construction....very pricey for the time and much desired by society debs and matrons." No surprise! This gown is like an sculptural masterpiece!
